Attention! Calling all food warriors, aspiring chefs, gardeners, organizers, and kitchen DJs! Have you FEASTed yet this month?
FEAST is all about building community through food and growing the Real Food Movement taking root throughout the city and around the country. With the support of the Detroit Food & Fitness Collaborative, young people have been planning, recruiting, and building since 2009 to put FEAST on the map.
This year the Youth Leadership Crew will organize, promote, and cook community FEAST dinners for youth and adults at community centers, gardens, and churches throughout the city, generally on the last Saturday of the month. These delicious, musical, home-cooked, locally grown, and seasonal meals prepared by young chefs will promote health and increase demand for local foods while inspiring community conversations about social, economic, and food justice issues.
The Youth Leadership Crew also meets monthly to dig deep into these issues, explore our great city, and train to become ultimate kitchen knife samurais. Young people across the city are invited to join us at our 2011 kickoff FEAST dinner taking place next Saturday, March 26th from 5-7pm at Warren/Conner Development Corporation, 11148 Harper. Contact Eitan Sussman at 313.237.8733 ext. 236 or firstname.lastname@example.org for more information or to RSVP for a FEAST event.
