As a partnership between the Greening of Detroit and the Detroit Food & Fitness Collaborative, FEAST is series of youth-led communal dinner events that celebrate local, seasonal, and delicious foods. Our Youth Leadership Crew plans, promotes, and prepares these meal events to build community and grow the Real Food Movement taking shape across Detroit and around the country.
On March 26, the Youth Leadership Crew kicked off the 2011 FEAST season with a delicious and seasonal meal at the Warren/Conner Development Corporation. We chopped, sautéed, and simmered our way through a fresh spanakopita (Greek spinach pie) and a Turkish spinach-lentil soup for dinner, complemented with a home-style baked apple-cherry crisp for dessert. We asked guests to contemplate and answer the question of the evening: ‘What is Good Food?’ Our discussion was as rich and filling as the food!
We can’t wait to build on our cooking skills and knowledge about the food system at our April dinner.
