Henry Ford Emergency Departments will hold the third annual Tour de Ford bike ride on Sunday, September 9, 2012. The event is supported by Detroit Food & Fitness Collaborative and other organizations.
Tour de Ford: Wheels that Heal is a fully supported bicycling event and benefit featuring three routes, all starting and finishing at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
- 10-mile route: This route will hit some local attractions such as Corktown, Mexicantown and the newly completed CHASS Health Clinic before journeying back through downtown to Henry Ford Hospital (recommended for beginners to occasional riders)
- 35-mile ride: This route covers the eastside of Detroit, Belle Isle, Grosse Pointe Cottage Medical Center, Indian Village and Eastern Market before returning to Henry Ford Hospital (recommended for occasional to experienced cyclists)
- 70-mile ride: This route explores several neighborhoods of Detroit before heading to Henry Ford Fairlane Medical Center in Dearborn, bike-friendly Hines Drive, towards I-275 Bike Path and takes a break at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital. Riders will return southbound via Grand River through neighborhoods in West Bloomfield, Farmington Hills and other cities before arriving back at Henry Ford Hospital (recommended for experienced cyclists only)
The Tour de Ford benefits patients. The Tom Groth Patient Medical Needs Fund honors the memory of a Henry Ford administrator who was heavily involved in the community. The fund was created for patients with no or limited insurance coverage to assist in defraying the costs of medications and medical supplies. Every year thousands of patients seen in the emergency department and clinics benefit from this fund
Tour de Ford also benefits bike riders. By participating in this event you will be doing something healthy for yourself while helping heal those who need medications and supplies.
Lastly, Tour de Ford also benefits the community. Tour de Ford celebrates the community by highlighting the sights and character of this indomitable city. We reach out to local businesses and residents to join us!
